Women’s Running Series Race Postponed

This past Thursday I was informed that the Women’s Running Series had to postpone all future scheduled race until further notice, including the St. Petersburg Half Marathon and 5K. I first received the notice on the Best Damn Race’s Facebook page, believing there may have been a mistake and there was another Women’s race scheduled I immediately went to the Women’s Running website and then my email.

True enough the news was officially confirmed. I was really looking forward to participating in the half marathon this year having come from running the 5k last year (you can read my review here). While I am disappointed that they had to postpone this years race, I am grateful that they decided to cancel knowing that they can’t deliver what was promised. I’d hate to invest the money and the event fail the standard that have been put in place.

The event coordinators offered three options for those who had paid their registration fee. First option was to transfer your registration from the St. Petersburg race to the Nashville race taking place in less than two weeks. Second option was the ability to transfer your registration to the Rock ‘n’ Roll Marathon Series, any event of our choice. Third option was to request a complete entry refund. With the Nashville series race taking place in under two weeks I did not feel I was prepared to run a half that soon. I considered transferring my registration fee to a Rock ‘n’ Roll Marathon Series but after reviewing their race schedule I did not need to be spending the money for the travel so I opted to just go for a full refund for the time being.

I have requested a full entry fee refund and the Best Damn Race Cape Coral will now be my next half marathon. In a way I am thinking ‘everything happens for a reason,’  I’ve been a little concern lately as to how I was supposed to run the Women’s Running and then BDR Cape Coral just two week afters without the onset of an injury. Now I have an additional two weeks to train and I can run BDR without provoking an injury. I also have the possibility of returning to  the Iron Girl series next April.
