With summer just about halfway over, I could not be more excited for “fall” to make it’s appearance meaning a tad bit of cooler weather here in Florida. Noticed my key word “tad” the cooler weather doesn’t hit till end of November (if we are lucky), December and January. I’ve come to the conclusion that only us runners here in Florida truly appreciate the colder weather. Cooler weather means fall/winter/early spring races!
The ladies of the Tuesdays on the Run link up are talking about their fall race schedule for this weeks topic. Surprisingly enough I really don’t have much lined up yet for the fall.
I am currently registered for a FREE, non-timed 10K event called, Run for the Fallen. I participated in this race last year and I could not believe the production and turn out for the event. This annual run is hosted by the Tampa Area Marine Parents Association (T.A.M.P.A) to honor all the of the fallen Floridian servicemen and women. The association’s ultimate goal is to have enough participants each year to represent each fallen hero in the state of Florida.
While I am currently not registered for much else, I am hoping to kick my training into gear this fall for a winter half marathon – still to be determined. In the meantime, I am looking into some virtual runs to keep my training exciting. I’ve heard Gone for a Run has some good virtual races and the past medals look pretty cool
What does your fall race schedule look like? Are there any races you are looking forward to the most?

I could never live in Florida! I barely survive the Virginia summers, which are nearly as hot, but don’t last as long. Good luck figuring out your winter half marathon! I ran Jacksonville last winter and it was pretty awesome.
Thanks, it’s brutal. It wouldn’t be so bad if it cooled down even the slightest at night but it doesn’t ๐ฆ Theres actually a race in Jacksonville in March that is on my “race wish list” ๐
What a great event!! And it’s free?! That’s awesome. I love races that have a great cause behind them too. I’m also looking at some of those virtual races too. Maybe we’ll end up doing the same one soon! ๐
Thanks Melanie, yes a completely free event! While it’s not timed it’s well worth the participation. Former soldiers and marines will dress in their uniforms and run the event with us ๐ I’ve never really participated in a virtual run before so I am excited to see what some of the options will be.
Oh wow!! What an awesome event!!
I did my first virtual one back in June and it was fun!! I just ran it during my long run but it was fun to have some purpose behind it. ๐
Run for the Fallen sounds like a lovely race and definitely for a great cause. The Gone for a Run virtual races are really great, I need to see if I can find another one to do!
Thanks Janelle, it’s a great cause. Many former soldiers and marines will participate running in their uniforms carrying back packs full of weights.
Gone for a Run has some great virtuals! Ilove them- hope you find some to do.
Thanks Patty!
A free race…SCORE!!!
Virtual runs are nice-I did one with my Mom Runs This Town group. I do miss the hustle and bustle of a live race though.
Thanks! Yeah I think that’s why I’ve put off doing a virtual run but I think at the same time it would help keep my training exciting receiving a medal, etc. ๐
Good idea-keeping the training exciting…hmmm something to think about ๐
